In Their Eyes

IN THEIR EYES

I can see it in your eyes
After the phone calls with family
After the talks with close friends
Fears too deep to be spoken
We both know they must be shared.

Your heart hurts, it’s clear
Everyday you long to be loved
By night, only disappointment remains
A façade for any that look
Until you’re vulnerable with me.

White. Pure. Thin.
I am strong enough to hold every fear.
Your tears flow from your pen
Blue blood stains
As you become part of me.

A million possibilities
Writing, pausing, waiting, crossing out
Tickling, breathing, hurting
Your hand brushes, each stroke closer
To the portrait I am destined to become.

A simple sheet of paper
I have become so much more
The journal of your life
A testament to joy and pain
I am a recording of your healing.

You place me in a drawer, hidden
Until the right day arrives
When your friends and family meet me
They hold me, staring
And I can see it in their eyes.
